Armistice day Tree memorial

On 9 November 2018 Penarth Civic Society planted its first tree, a Rowan tree, in the Memorial Gardens on Rectory Road Penarth, to commemorate the one hundred years that have passed since the Armistice was signed on 11 November 2018. We hope that as this tree grows and matures adding to the tree canopy in our town it will be appreciated and enjoyed by present and future generations of Penarth residents.

Pictured are committee members and local dignitaries. At the event Dr Jonathan Hicks spoke of local servicemen who had lost their lives and there was a very informative event afterwards at the Paget Rooms which proved very popular.

The Committee decided that the cost - £350 for the tree itself and £348 for the plaque and associated costs – was more than justified as an appropriate way to commemorate this historic occasion.
