Albert Road School and Schoolhouse

These were built in 1876 in Tudor-Gothic style, greatly enlarged in the early C20th with some classical detail.

The pictures of children on the front were painted by Robert Morton Nance to designs by his wife, Beatrice Michell.

He was from a local family with Cornish roots and they lived locally after being expelled from art college for marrying.  He later became a leader of the Cornish language revival.
